HOPE Ministry

Kindergarten through 2nd Grade

HOPE stands for Holy Orthodox Primary Education. As the age of these children is very young, between 5 and 8 years old, HOPE ministries are mainly organized at the parish level. However there are two Metropolis Ministries where children at this age can participate. They are FDF and Greek Village.

Starting a HOPE Ministry

If your community has children from kindergarten through second grade, hopefully you have a HOPE ministry. If not and you would like to organize one, this is how you can get started:

1. Download and read the HOPE Ministry Guidelines from the Archdiocese. Click here to download a copy of the HOPE Ministry Guidelines issued by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese Department of Youth and Young Adult Ministries.

2. Look at some of the websites of other communities in your area and see
if they have a HOPE ministry to see what they are doing. Call the ministry
leader and get some ideas. (Link to list of parish websites.)

3. Contact the Metropolis Youth Office with any questions.

The mission and goal of the HOPE ministry is to lead our children in to experiencing the Holy Orthodox Faith. By developing a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and becoming active sacramental members of the living church, our children will be equipped with tools necessary to assist them in their journey toward salvation. By laying a foundation of faith at this age, the young people will have something that will guide and strengthen them through life.
