FDF

The Greek Orthodox Folk Dance & Choral Festival

First organized in 1977, FDF originally stood for Folk Dance Festival. Later the Choral

competition was added to this ministry so FDF now represents the Greek Orthodox Folk
Dance & Choral Festival Ministry. The acronym FDF now also stands for Faith, Dance
& Fellowship!

FDF has grown to be the single largest gathering of young people and their families in
the Metropolis every year!

Dance Ministry

Ages: There is no minimum age requirement to dance at FDF. Some communities have
dance groups with children as young as 4 years of age. However, groups with children
up to 8 years of age dance on a non-competitive basis.

Choral Ministry

Ages: There is also no minimum age requirement for children to sing in a choral group.

While most people come to FDF for the dance competition, the Choral Ministry has
been an integral part of FDF for many years. The goal of the choral competition is to
enhance the music ministry of the Metropolis through encouraging youth participation;
and, to promote the study and performance of the sacred music of the Greek Orthodox
Church, and secular music of Hellenic heritage.

Diakonia

Diakonia means service. As Orthodox Christians we are called to “carry one another’s burdens” in many ways, including serving our community. Every year we gather together to celebrate our faith and culture at FDF. What better way to celebrate these ideals than by helping others?

If your dance group has done a project to serve others, we want you to share it with us! Submit a short description of the service performed along with group photographs from the activity so we can showcase your projects on our website and at FDF 2015. All submissions should be sent to info@yourfdf.org

If your dance group has not done a Diakonia Project yet there is still time!
