WHAT IS HUNGER STRIKE?

Hunger Strike is a youth ministry program developed at St. Paul’s by Carolyn Kouracos to connect the ancient Christian discipline of fasting with prayer, ministry and outreach to others. Keeping in line with Carolyn’s vision, Hunger Strike now serves as a youth ministry program designed to teach our youth about missionary work in other countries. This is accomplished by bringing in a variety of different missionary workers across the world. This year we have brought two guest speakers from Project Mexico & St. Innocent’s Orphanage.

GUEST SPEAKERS FROM PROJECT MEXICO & ST. INNOCENT ORPHANAGE

Erik Swanson
Erik grew up in the Pacific Northwest surrounded by mountains, ocean and lots of cloudy days. Growing up in that setting fostered a sense of adventure from a young age which translated into a variety of different experiences. He spent time commercial fishing in Alaska, Backpacking in South America and riding a bicycle across the country in between his quarters at school. After graduating from Western Washington University with a degree in Public Relations he moved to Rosarito, Mexico to begin his ministry in the homebuilding program at Project Mexico and St. Innocent Orphanage. He has lived there since June of 2016.

Eva Basaraba
Eva is from a small town in Creston, British Columbia, Canada. After being a home building intern for the summer of 2016 for Project Mexico, it became clear to her that St. Innocent orphanage is where she needs to be. Her eagerness for adventure and her goals of service led her to move to the orphanage soon after her internship, to assist those in need in any way possible. She has now lived at the orphanage since June, 2016.
